Muppet Mashup

Sesame Street has gotten some attention on the Internet this last week because of their 40th anniversary. In their honor, this site posted pictures of Sesame Street (and Muppets) celebrity doppelgangers. My favorite was Pepe and Steve Buscemi.

This made me realize I have some people in my extended family that also look like characters.

Mike and Waldorf

Connor and Scooter (minus the glasses)

Thankfully there is only one Pops.

Manteca Trip

On Friday we went down to Manteca to visit Uncle Larry. We spent some quality time with the Morgans, Grandma Sharon, Papa, Grandma Dede, and Pops. Below are some pictures.

Uncle Larry spoiled the kids by letting them play with squirt guns and bubbles in the house.

Play doh was also a part of the indoor activities.

Grandma Sharon feeding Connor while Pops makes smart alec comments.

Grandma Sharon and Taylor running from the bear. I was surprised by the number of stuffed animals at the store. Glad to see the taxidermist is not suffering from the recession.

Connor tried to convince Uncle Larry to buy a ski boat. It didn't work.

I thought getting a good picture of four kids was tough, now we have to add a fifth for an added degree of difficulty.

Thanksgiving Pictures

Below are some pictures from over the weekend.

Baby's first Thanksgiving.

Papa sure was happy to have all his grand kids spend the night.

For the most part, these three played well together. Occasionally one of them would try to take the other's toy but on the whole they got along great.

Pops enjoying the always relaxed Connor.

Paint time!

Dillon showing the mess he made.

But Kaleb out did them all by trying to eat his paint.

Promised Pictures

Another generation of Nixons driving the Tracker.

Pops, Grandma Dede, and Grandma Sharon all helped to clean up the house. Here is Dillon doing his part.

Dillon got some early birthday presents from Pops and Grandma Dede. They gave him Cars and a motorcycle. He will not put down his motorcycle and even insists he takes it to bed with him.

Dillon's Big Weekend, Part 1

Here are some pictures of last weekend. Tomorrow I will post some of his party.
Dillon's first present of the weekend was this tractor from Uncle Larry. You can't tell from the picture but the tractor has pedals on it. Unfortunately, Dillon is too little to reach them so someone had to push Dillon up and down the driveway. Fortunately, Uncle Larry, Pops, and Papa were more than willing to push him.

Pops and Uncle Larry finally got tired of pushing Dillon on his tractor so they put him in the back of the truck, which he still thoroughly enjoyed.

"Look, Mom! I got to stand on the truck tires with my bare feet!"

Kaleb, Taylor, and Dillon. I guarantee this picture puts a smile on Grandma Sharon's face.

4 months

Dillon had his four month old doctor's appointment earlier in the week. He measured in at 25 1/2 inches and weighed 13 pounds 6 ounces. The doctor said he was in the 75th percentile in length, 50th percentile in head size, and 25th percentile in weight. Our little beanpole also got three shots. Surprisingly he only cried for a few seconds. A tough little beanpole.

Last week Christina and Dillon made a trek down to Shafter, leaving me home alone. While I was struggling for survival, they were having fun with my family. Here are some pictures.

Taylor and Dillon excited that in a few months Taylor's little brother will be able to take a picture with them.

I still haven't figured out which one is the adult.

But Mom, I don't wanna wear a tie!

This last picture isn't from Dillon's trip, but it is his first meal other than milk. Not much of his crushed rice made it to his stomach.

Great Great Trip

This last weekend Dillon made his first trip outside of Tuolumne County. There were other firsts for Dillon as well, like meeting his Great Great Grandma Nixon (aka Mum), Great Uncle Larry, and a few of his dad's friends.

To accommodate the dial up internet readers, I have posted the pictures in the smallest format to ensure a faster loading time. Remember, just click on the picture to see it enlarged.

Here is Dillon with Mum, or as my Dad told Dillon "his Grandpa's Grandma."

This is Pops holding Dillon. Notice the similarity in the hairlines.

Five generations of Nixons. Soon Dillon will be old enough to find his way to Mum's stash of sodas in the fridge.

Smiles all around.

Is there a doctor in the house?

On Friday night my dad received his doctorate in Theology. We are very proud of his accomplishment and all the hard work that went into this feat.

My Two Grandpas

For the past few weeks I have been thinking about my grandpas. It started with a breakfast in McDonald’s right before I took the CPA test. I rarely eat breakfast or at McDonald’s but when the two occasionally collide I always order a Sausage Biscuit. My Grandpa Sherl taught me that putting mustard on a Sausage Biscuit considerably improved the breakfast sandwich.

Grandpa Sherl was not my blood grandfather. My mom’s dad died in a car crash when she was only 18 years old (Update: she informed that she was 20). My grandma got remarried to my Grandpa Sherl two days after my fifth birthday (Update: once again my mother informed me that it was my seventh birthday). Because we were so young my siblings and I never had a problem calling him grandpa.

One of my favorite memories of Grandpa Sherl happened Thanksgiving Day 1993. Grandpa, a life long Dallas Cowboys fan, was watching the Cowboys beat the Dolphins. Everything was going fine until the Cowboys blocked a potential game winning field goal and Leon Lett mistakenly tried to recover the ball. My grandpa stormed out of the house after the Dolphins recovered the ball on the goal line and kicked the game winning field goal. It was the only time in my life that I ever saw him mad at anyone.

My other grandpa, us grandkids called him Papa, is the constant joker. The earliest prank that I can remember him pulling off was when I was six or seven. All of the grandkids were staying with my grandparents at their cabin in the mountains. We were all playing inside when Papa came storming into the house, grabbed a butcher knife, and said something to the effect of, “Dede (my grandma) that bear is back again” before he hustled outside.

We were shocked and scared that Papa was going out to battle the bear. A few minutes later Papa emerged with blood (which turned out to be ketchup) all over his clothes. He announced that he had slaughtered the great beast and wanted to take us kids to see what was left of the bear.

Papa led the way behind the cabin to where the dead bear lay. Suddenly something big cried out as it rustled in the bushes. All of the grandkids, including myself, ran as fast as we could back to the cabin. We were in such a hurry that we did not hear the “beast” in the bushes was just mooing nor did we hear grandpa laughing.

***

Grandpa Sherl died of cancer my sophomore year of college. The last memory I have of him was his smile when we walked into the room to visit even though he was in obvious pain. He was a great man and is sorely missed.

Papa is still pulling pranks even though now he is legally blind. When led into a crowded bathroom he will pretend to believe the sink is the urinal just to embarrass the person with him. He has also been know to act as if small bushes are dogs while he tries to “pet” them.

I consider myself very lucky to have such wonderful grandfathers and will forever cherish all the great memories that I have of them.
